Preface
This publication marks a transformative moment for the Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC) as we broaden our scope from analyzing technology applications and industry trends to examining the broader intersections of geopolitics, economic security, and the sovereignty of data and digital infrastructure. Although “sovereignty” is a foundational theme throughout this work, our intention is not to advocate isolation but to encourage open, meaningful dialogue on these critical topics.
In recent years, our research has uncovered strong connections between technological advancements—especially artificial intelligence (AI)—
and economic security. Over the past two years, we have collaborated with experts across the EU, UK, Japan, and Singapore to deepen our understanding of these dynamics. This insight is crucial for Taiwan’s industries and government as they navigate a complex landscape where AI, data technologies, and supply chain resilience are key.
Robust supply chains and resilient digital infrastructure are crucial for advancing AI. Reliable access to AI chips and cloud services forms the
foundation of AI-dependent systems, especially in critical sectors such as transportation, energy, finance, and national defense. Disruptions here could have far-reaching impacts, underscoring the urgent need for secure infrastructure beyond economic concerns.
In the age of AI, collaboration is key, necessitating closer interactions within supply chains to cultivate stronger ecosystems. Our goal is to identify collaborative opportunities with like-minded partners to foster deeper dialogue for a clearer vision of economic security, and to enhance digital sovereignty while actively engaging in the global supply chain.
