NTT DoCoMo recently announced that it has started accepting bids from equipment suppliers for base stations and mobile phones for its Super
3G network technology. NTT DoCoMo will select its partners for developing Super
3G base stations and handsets around October 2006 and expects to finalize Super
3G development by the end of 2009. Super
3G networks feature enhanced versions of HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) and HSUPA (High-Speed Uplink Packet Access) technologies, and can provide considerably higher data transmission speed than that of current
3G networks.
