Indonesia Issues Three New 3G Licenses
February 22, 2006
According to a recent Dow Jones report, the Indonesian government has issued 3G licenses to three operators, including Excelcomindo Pratama (XL), Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel), and Indosat. The operators offered 188 billion Rupiah, 218 billion Rupiah, and 160 billion Rupiah respectively for the licenses, which cover a period of ten years. Two other operators - Telekomunikasi Indonesia and Bakrie Telecom - failed to obtain a license during the most recent bidding process. Indonesia already issued 3G licenses to Natrindo in 2003 and to Cyber Access in 2004, but actual 3G services have not yet started in the country.
