Ericsson announced on May 12, 2011 that the company has sealed a contract with LG U+ to set up commercial LTE (Long Term Evolution) service network in Korea, according to a press release by Ericsson. As per the contract, Ericsson will be in charge of building the LTE network in Seoul, and the company will provide EPC (Evolved Packet Core) network, base stations, and optical repeaters for the service. The project is scheduled to begin in May this year and is slated to complete in 2012. With the LTE project, it is reported that LG U+ aims to gradually migrate from the current CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) network to LTE network.
