ZTE Plans to Establish Manufacturing Unit in Chennai, India
April 08, 2011

ZTE plans to set up its own manufacturing unit in Chennai, India, or form a joint venture with its India partners, according to a March 28, 2011 report by the Telegraph. It is reported that mobile phone vendors will be required to use certain percentage of equipment from local manufactures based on the new National Telecom Policy to be released in April this year by the India government. ZTE India currently imports equipment from China, and although the company has a facility in Manesar, India, the facility focuses on operator supports, such as repair and maintenance, rather than manufacturing.
