Hitachi
has asked to use part of the facilities of a Panasonic Liquid Crystal Display's
plant located in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, aiming to expand the company's small-
to medium-sized LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel production, according to a
January 4, 2011 report by the Japan Today. It is reported that the plant is
used to produce LCD TV panels. Hitachi's move is projected to reduce the company's
capital investment while meeting increasing demand for LCD panels used in
Smartphones, according to the same source.
Hitachi-Panasonic
joint venture IPS Alpha Technology was renamed Panasonic Liquid Crystal Display
in October 2010 after Hitachi transferred most of its stake in the JV to
Panasonic in June, 2010.
