Japanese Elpida to Team Up with Taiwanese Manufacturers for DRAM Production

Elpida Memory is engaging in negotiations with Taiwanese chip manufacturers,
such as Powerchip Technology and ProMOS Technologies, for business cooperation,
according to a December 27, 2010 report by the Japan Today. It is reported that
Elpida aims to take up approximately 20% market share worldwide through teaming
up with Taiwanese partners. Elpida's President is expected to visit Taiwan in
January 2011 for the business tie-up negotiations. Elpida plans to manufacture
DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) for PCs in Taiwan and produce high-end
chips at its Hiroshima plant in Japan in a bid to reduce production costs,
according to the same source.
