Chunghwa Telecom, Alcatel-Lucent Team Up for LTE Trial in Taiwan

Alcatel-Lucent
and Taiwanese telecom operator Chunghwa Telecom have entered into an agreement
for an end-to-end LTE (Long Term Evolution) trial in Taiwan, leveraging 2.6GHz
and 700MHz bands, according to an October 20, 2010 press release by
Alcatel-Lucent. Pursuant to the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will provide the company
LTE base stations, Evolved Packet Core, IP service routing network elements,
application portal for services and operation, and administration and
maintenance system. Through the cooperation with Alcatel-Lucent, Chunghwa
Telecom is projected to test the performance of LTE services and multimedia
applications and evaluate related business models. It is reported that the
trial is slated to begin in October this year.
