HP to Expand R&D Center in Taiwan

plans to move the R&D center in California, United States to Taiwan and upgrade
the local Taiwan R&D center to a global computing hub, according to an
August 31, 2010 report by the Commercial Times of Taiwan. The new R&D
center is projected to focus on designing and developing next generation desktop
PCs, notebook PCs, and printers. It is reported that the Ministry of Economic
Affairs of Taiwan has approved HP's application of expanding its Taiwan R&D
center in late August 2010, and the ministry is expected to provide government
funds for HP's expansion project. HP plans to invest NT$3.6 billion (US$112.5
million, US$1=NT$32) in expanding the Taiwan R&D center and add 1,600 to 2,000
people to its workforce over three years. The expansion project is slated to
begin in October this year.
