Panasonic to Boost 42-Inch Plasma Display Panel Production in China

Panasonic
plans to boost the production of plasma display panels at its Shanghai plant by
approximately five times by the fiscal year ending in March 2013, according to
an August 20 report by the Yomiuri Shimbun of Japan. Panasonic's Shanghai plant
is capable of producing 25,000 42-inch panels per month now, and Panasonic plans to expand the capacity to over
120,000 units per month. It is reported that Panasonic currently exports plasma
display panels produced at a Japanese plant to China in order to meet the
Chinese market demand. With the production expansion in China, the company is
expected to save as much as 30% of its product costs, according to the same
source.
