ZTE Teams Up with UCell for LTE Deployment in Uzbekistan

telecom equipment supplier ZTE announced that the company and UCell have launched
LTE (Long Term Evolution) network service in Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent,
according to a press release by ZTE on August 9, 2010. Telecom operator UCell
is Swedish TeliaSonera's subsidiary in Uzbekistan, with a subscriber base of
5.4 million. It is reported that the Uzbekistan government has granted UCell a
4G license in July this year, and ZTE was then chosen by UCell to provide the required
equipment. ZTE deployed its SDR (Software
Defined Radio) -based Uni-RAN (Radio Access Network) solution for UCell's LTE
network, and the new network is projected to support a peak download speed of
100Mbps, according to ZTE.
