- Malaysia's YTL Communications and Intel
Malaysia have signed an agreement for collaboration on WiMAX, according to an
August 2 report by Bernama. It is reported that the YTL-Intel collaboration
will consist of interoperability tests of Intel's WiMAX and Wi-Fi wireless
chipsets on YTL's WiMAX network, slated for launch in the fourth quarter of
2010. Furthermore, it is expected that Intel will provide YTL with WiMAX-ready
devices, such as WiMAX-embedded notebook PCs. According to the Bernama report,
Intel Malaysia projects that the collaboration with YTL will be able to
stimulate WiMAX adoption and help the country reach the target of 50%
penetration rate by year-end 2010, as envisioned by Malaysia's National
Broadband Plan.
