India Releases Regulations for Telecom Equipment Import
August 06, 2010
The
Indian government has announced its telecom licensing regulations on the Department
of Telecommunications website, according to a July 28, 2010 report by Dow Jones
Newswires. According to the rules posted on the website, service providers
importing telecom equipment to India are required to disclose the source code,
or software programs used in the equipment, and design details. In terms of
network management, it is reported that service providers are also required to
hire as less foreign engineers as possible. India officially imposed a ban on import
of Chinese telecom equipment earlier this year over security concerns, and with
the implementation of the new rules, it is expected that it will be easier to
detect spyware or malware that might endanger telecom networks in India.
