Toshiba
Mobile Display announced on July 5, 2010 that the company has transferred its
stake in Singaporean subsidiary AFPD to AUO on July 1, according to Taiwan's Economic
Daily News. AUO and Toshiba signed a memorandum of understanding in the first
quarter this year regarding the transaction of this LTPS LCD (Low Temperature
Polysilicon Liquid Crystal Display) plant in Singapore. LTPS can be used as
substrates for AM-OLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) panels, and
with the acquisition of AFPD, AUO aims to expand its AM-OLED panel production capacity.
It is reported that AUO will manufacture AM-OLED panels at its 3.5G plant, and
mass production and shipment are slated for the end of this year.
