Indonesian Internet and pay TV service provider
PT First Media launched its WiMAX network under a dedicated subsidiary Sitra
WiMAX, the Jakarta Globe reported on June 28, 2010. It is reported that Sitra
WiMAX will cover the regions not serviced by First Media fiber optic Internet
service Fastnet and will be deployed in the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang,
Bekasi, Banten region as well as the Northern Sumatra and Aceh region. First
Media said it has invested US$50 million in Sitra and expects to inject around
US$350 million into its WiMAX deployment project over the next decade.
First Media was awarded a 2.3GHz frequency band
license by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of
Indonesia in July 2009. The company has obtained a 15MHz bandwidth for its
WiMAX service.
