WiMAX Development in Asia April 26 - May 2
May 01, 2010
Korean mobile operator SK Telecom said it has
not made any decision on whether to buy a stake in Malaysian WiMAX carrier
Packet One Networks, according to an April 15 new report by the Star Online of
Malaysia. The statement was made in response to a recent report that SK Telecom
was one of the foreign companies showing interest in acquiring a 20% stake in Packet
One Networks, a subsidiary of mobile broadband solution provider Green Packet.
The deal is valued at US$100 million and is expected to help fund the Malaysian
carrier's subsequent network deployment. Packet One Networks plans to deploy
WiMAX in east Malaysia by the second half of 2010 and launch its WiMAX services
in Singapore in the future.
