TSMC to Build Third 300mm Wafer Fab in Central Taiwan
May 01, 2010
TSMC plans to build its third 300mm wafer fab in
the Central Taiwan Science Park, according to an April 28 Commercial Times
report. Dubbed Fab 15, the new fab is expected to involve an investment of up
to NT$100 billion (US$3.2 billion; US$1=NT$31.3). With the commencement of
construction slated for mid-2010, Fab 15 is expected to support the 28nm
process technology. TSMC has projected a full-year capital spending of up to
US$4.8 billion for capacity expansion. In addition to the establishment of Fab
15 in central Taiwan, TSMC also plans to launch the fifth-phase expansion at
Fab 12 in Hsinchu and the fourth-phase expansion at Fab 14 in Tainan; both are
300mm wafer fabs, too.
