Taiwan-based EMS (Electronic Manufacturing

production at its Chongqing notebook PC plant to May this year, according to an
April 16 Apple Daily report. Hon Hai began construction on the US$1 billion
plant in Chongqing Xiyong Microelectronic Industrial Park, western China, in
September 2009, with the start of mass production previously slated for
September this year. Currently operating with a staff of some 1,000 at the
Chongqing plant, Hon Hai plans to hire 6,000 more over the next six months and
boost the overall number of employees to 10,000 next year. It is projected that
Hon Hai will reach a full-year shipment volume of 12 million to 14 million
notebook PCs this year, among which around 10 million units will be contributed
by the Chongqing plant.
