WiMAX Development in Asia April 5-11

Indian telecom operator BSNL has begun providing
WiMAX in the Punjab telecom circle at a speed ranging from 512Kbps at the
minimum to 7Mbps at the maximum, Telecom Talk reported on April 5. Punjab BSNL
has already provided WiMAX services in limited rural regions and now the
services have expanded to the urban regions, powered by 350 WiMAX BTS (Base
Transceiver Station) towers. In addition to the capital city Chandigarh, other Punjab
districts covered by BSNL's WiMAX services include Panchkulaa, Zirakpur,
Mandigobindgarh, Samana, Rajpura, Muktsar, Rampurphul, Kotkapura, Abohar,
Batala, Gurdaspur, Jagraon, Phagwara, and Khanna.
