China Mobile Earmarks US$300 Mln Investment in Pakistan in 2010

Chinese telecom operator China Mobile said on April 2 that it plans to spend approximately US$300 million on further establishment of infrastructure in Pakistan, Reuters reported. The investment will be made by China Mobile's Pakistani subsidiary Zong, which is expected to focus on the construction and expansion of GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) networks, support systems, and transmission facilities. Thus far, Zong has invested US$1.66 billion in its operations in Pakistan, with 5,000 cell sites deployed and 6.93 million subscribers accumulated.
