China Mobile to Separately Team Up with Taiwan's NTCU, Far EasTone for TD-LTE Demo Networks
April 09, 2010
During China Mobile Vice President Sha Yuejia's visit to Taiwan in April, Taiwan's NTCU (National Chiao Tung University) announced on April 9 that it has entered into separate MoUs (Memorandum of Understandings) with China Mobile and NSN (Nokia Siemens Networks), Taiwan's Economic Daily reported on April 3. Under the terms of agreements signed, the NTCU will collaborate with China Mobile in the deployment of a new TD-LTE (Time Division-Long Term Evolution) demonstration network in Taiwan leveraging the telecom equipment supplied by NSN, including core network and base stations. This demonstration network reportedly will begin operations in May 2010.

On April 6, China Mobile also signed a similar MoU with Far EasTone, a Taiwanese telecom operator, the Sina Tech News reported on April 7. Under the terms of the MoU, these two companies will join hands in the establishment of a TD-LTE demonstration network in Taipei to help Taiwanese companies conduct TD-LTE trials in Taiwan. In addition, they will also focus on the development of TD-LTE technology and applications, as well as the establishment of an industry supply chain in this segment. Aside from Far EasTone, China Mobile is also in talks with other Taiwanese telecom operators Vibo Telecom and Chunghwa Telecom for similar tie-ups, according again to the Sina Tech News.
