Taiwan's Asia Pacific Telecom to Reveal CDMA2000 1xEVDO Equipment Tender Result Soon

Taiwanese telecom operator Asia-Pacific Telecom will soon announce the tender result for EVDO (Evolution Data Only) network equipment procurement, in a bid to accelerate its network transition from CDMA 2000 (Code Division Multiple Access 2000) to CDMA2000 1xEVDO, the Sina Tech News reported on March 29. The tender is valued at NT$20 billion (US$631.0 million; US$1 = NT$31.7). Asia Pacific Telecom confirmed that Huawei and ZTE have submitted their tender documents, with Huawei being awarded the priority price negotiation rights, according to the same source.
In addition, Asia Pacific Telecom plans to purchase between 1200 and 1300 EVDO base stations during the period 2010-2011. The telecom operator stated that the company is projected to launch a trial EVDO network in October 2010 and the EVDO network is slated for commercialization at year-end 2010, according again to the Sina Tech News.
