Renesas Expands MCU Production Facility in Beijing

Japanese semiconductor manufacturer Renesas
Technology has completed construction on a new MCU (Microcontroller Unit)
production facility at the back-end process plant of its Beijing subsidiary
Renesas Semiconductor, EE Times reported on February 3. Injected with an
investment of about 4 billion Yen (US$44.8 million; US$1=89.2 Yen), the new
facility is slated to begin operations within fiscal 2010 ending in March 2011.
It is estimated that upon commencement of operations, the production area of
the Beijing facility will expand approximately 60% from 18,000 square meters to
29,000 square meters. Furthermore, production output is projected to grow from
65 million units per month at present to 100 million units monthly by the end
of fiscal 2010.
