- The Jakarta Post reported on September 25 that
PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, also known as Telkom, is slated to lead off WiMAX
service in Indonesia in the first quarter of 2010. Telkom said that the company
has been working to fulfill the requirements for obtaining WiMAX operating
licenses, which are expected to be issued by Indonesia's Ministry of
Communications and Information by the end of October 2009. It is reported that
Telkom will have to employ a minimum of 40% local products and equipment in the
company's WiMAX network infrastructure.
- Malaysian WiMAX carrier Packet One Networks
has adopted Fujitsu's FLASHWAVE 7500 high-speed OWDM (Optical Wavelength Division
Multiplexer) as the transmission backbone for the company's WiMAX network in
the capital Kuala Lumpur and the neighboring state of Selangor, Nikkei reported
on September 23. Fujitsu's FLASHWAVE 7500 platform features an ROADM
(Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer), which is expected to facilitate
high-speed optical transmission while cutting back on electrical power
consumption. The platform also supports multiple interfaces, such as SONET (Synchronous
Optical Networking)/SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy), Ethernet, and other
data interfaces. Fujitsu expects to extend the application of its FLASHWAVE
7500 ROADM platform to the deployment of next-generation networks in the Asia-Pacific
and EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) regions, according to the Nikkei
report.
