ZTE to Deploy Vinaphone's UMTS Networks in Central Vietnam
September 20, 2009
Following a June 2009 deal cut with Vietnamese
military-owned operator Viettel to deploy the company's UMTS (Universal Mobile
Telecommunications System) network, Chinese telecom solution provider ZTE has obtained
an order from Vinaphone, a subsidiary of Vietnamese telecom operator VNPT Group,
for the overall construction of Vinaphone's UMTS networks in central provinces
of the country, Nikkei reported on September 15. As per the contract, ZTE is
expected to provide its advanced SDR (Soft Defined Radio) base stations for
Vinaphone's UMTS networks. ZTE has had experience in delivering, installing,
and adjusting a trial UMTS network in Vietnam previously, according to the
Nikkei report. Financial terms of the ZTE-Vinaphone deal have not been
disclosed, though.
