TSMC, Fujitsu to Jointly Develop 28nm Process Technology

Taiwanese chip foundry TSMC announced on August
27 that it will collaborate with Japan's Fujitsu Microelectronics on 28nm manufacturing
process technology, Taiwan's Commercial Times reported. TSMC and Fujitsu have previously
collaborated on 40nm process technology, and their 28nm partnership is expected
to include 28nm logic IC foundry service for Fujitsu as well as joint development
28nm high-performance process technology. It is reported that initial sample shipment
of 28nm products will begin at year-end 2009 and the two companies are also
mulling further collaboration on advanced packaging.
