TSMC, NXP Launch Co-developed Single-chip 45nm LCD TV Platform
July 17, 2009
Taiwanese semiconductor foundry TSMC said on
July 9 that it has collaborated with NXP Semiconductors to develop a
single-chip 45nm platform for LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) TV, Taiwan's Central
News Agency reported. Codenamed TV550, the NXP digital TV platform is based on
TSMC's 45nm LP (Low Power) process technology and incorporates NXP's PNX85500
processor. It is reported that TSMC's 45nm LP process, in comparison with the
65nm process, is able to double the chip density with lower power consumption
and reduce the die size by up to 40%. According to a July 10 report by Nikkei, TSMC
and NXP have beaten the competitors to deliver the industry's first single-chip
45nm LCD TV platform. Also, NXP has begun sampling the production-ready
reference design to its major customers.
