June 05, 2009
Japan's NTT DoCoMo and Spain's Telefonica have
formed a collaborative partnership by jointly launching a Windows Mobile-based
mobile phone by Toshiba on May 26, according to Cellular-News. The Toshiba
phone selected by NTT DoCoMo and Telefonica is a full touch panel model, which
will be rolled out in Japan and Spain in June 2009 under the respective brands
of T-01A and TG01. Starting from the initiative of joint phone launch, the two
telecom operators expect to extend their partnership to enhancement of
corporate competitiveness as well as potential collaboration on services and
applications for Internet-capable, open OS (Operating System) devices. In order
to strengthen their presence in the overseas markets, various Japanese telecom
operators and mobile phone makers have forged similar alliances with
international partners. SoftBank, for instance, has teamed up with Vodafone, Verizon,
and China Mobile on 3G and LTE (Long Term Evolution).
