Chinese telecommunications network solution
provider Huawei Technologies has been selected by Telekom Srpske to deploy its
3G UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System)/HSPA (High Speed Packet

to a press release by Huawei on May 7, 2009. In addition to the capability of
providing high-speed mobile broadband communications, Telekom Srpske is

fourth-generation NodeB and SingleRAN solution. Financial terms of the deal
were not disclosed.
Meanwhile, Huawei's Indian unit has obtained a US$150
million order from Indian mobile operator Unitech Wireless for the supply,
installation, and maintenance of network equipment, according to a Wall Street
Journal report on May 12. Unitech Wireless is the telecom arm of Indian real estate
developer Unitech. The fledgling telecom obtained a license in 2008 for
operating in 22 telecom circles in India, and the contract with Huawei covers
three circles: Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. It is reported that
the deal will be executed over a period of five years. Alcatel-Lucent is the
other equipment provider to have won Unitech's equipment supply contract,
