Fujitsu, TSMC to Collaborate on 40nm Chip Production, New Process Technology Development
May 01, 2009
Fujitsu Microelectronics and Taiwanese
semiconductor foundry TSMC jointly announced on April 30 that the two companies
will team up on chip production on the 40nm process, according to a press
release by the two companies. Through this collaboration, Fujitsu will begin
sourcing the manufacturing of its 40nm logic ICs to TSMC later this year. In
addition, the two companies expect to start discussions on further
collaboration for the development of 28nm and newer-generation process
technologies. It is expected that, following the collaboration with TSMC,
Fujitsu will gradually exit from its own semiconductor chip production and development,
according to a May 1 Financial Times report on this topic.
