India's Wipro Technologies Buys Nokia's Mobile TV Unit

Nokia revealed on April 20 that the company has sold its Mobile Broadcast Solutions unit, which focuses on mobile TV solutions for enterprises, to India's Wipro Technologies, according to Reuters India. Nokia's Mobile Broadcast Solution is based on the DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcast ?Handheld) server platform, and the mobile TV unit, with a workforce of around 40, mainly engages in the R&D of software and hardware facilitating access to mobile TV broadcasting networks for mobile phones. Nokia said that by selling the unit to Wipro, the company expects to focus on the consumer side, rather than the business-to-business side, of mobile TV broadcasting, according to the Reuters report. Financial terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.
