- Chinese mobile operator China Mobile and the municipal government of
Xiamen,
Fujian Province, recently signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding), whereby both parties will collaborate on establishing a wireless broadband network in the city based on
China's own-developed TD-SCDMA/TD-
HSDPA technology, Sohu News reported.
Beginning from September 8, 2008, users will be able to access the service in
Xiamen - reportedly the first wireless city based on said technology in
China - by means of their own mobile phones and notebook PCs with a built-in TD-SCDMA data card, according to the Sohu News report.

Zhejiang Province, recently has made an official announcement that it will launch the TD-SCMDA service in
Hangzhou by June 2009, according to Chinanews.com.
- Chinese CYIT (Chongqing Chongyou Information Technology) recently announced that it has set up a joint venture with two state-owned investment companies, Chongqing Venture Capital and CQYF (Chongqing Yufu) Assets Management, to jointly develop new chipset solutions for TD-SCDMA mobile phones, Sina Tech reported on September 4. The new joint venture is capitalized at 320 million RMB (US$46.8 million; US$1=6.8 RMB); CYIT will hold a stake of 50%, with the remaining stake shared between the two investment companies.
