Abstract

This report presents forecast and recent quarter review of Taiwanese feature phone shipment volume, shipment value, ASP, volume and share by maker and by price point, and manufacturer volume ranking. The report also includes product mix analyses, including phone type, system technology, display color count mix, embedded camera and camera array format, and handset shape. Assembly levels, production locations, shipment destinations, business types, and customer portfolios are also examined. The content of this report is based on primary data obtained through interviews with feature phone makers. The report finds that Taiwanese feature phone manufacturers faced the end-of-life of some products manufactured for major branded customers, while there were relatively new models which began shipments in the fourth quarter of 2009. As a result, both shipment volume and value saw substantial declines in this quarter. Some Taiwanese manufacturers have therefore adjusted their product lines and begun developing Smartphone products, while others have launched price initiatives so as to vie for contract manufacturing orders. Looking ahead to 2010, the Taiwanese feature phone industry is expected to encounter even more difficult times ahead. It is envisaged that 2010 will be a year of change for the Taiwanese feature phone manufacturers.
