Abstract

This report presents forecast and recent quarter review of Taiwanese basic/feature phone shipment volume, shipment value, ASP, volume and share by maker and by price point, and manufacturer volume ranking. The report also includes product mix analyses, including phone type, system technology, display color count mix, embedded camera and camera array format, and handset shape. Assembly levels, production locations, shipment destinations, business types, and customer portfolios are also examined. The content of this report is based on primary data obtained through interviews with basic/feature phone makers. The report finds that the Taiwanese basic/feature phone shipment volume experienced considerable sequential declines in the first quarter of 2009. Although ASP grew due to increase in the shipment of high-end EDGE models, shipment value dropped in the first quarter due to the large-scale decline in shipment volume. In the second quarter of 2009, although the rush orders that began to emerge in the first quarter are expected to reach an end, it is forecasted that Taiwanese basic/feature phone shipment volume will still see slight sequential growth. The scale of second-half contract manufacturing orders, however, cannot be established yet as market demand visibility is still unclear.
