Abstract

This report presents forecast and recent quarter review of overall Taiwanese mobile handheld device shipment volume. The report includes forecast and recent quarter review of smart cellular device shipment volume, shipment value, and APS, and analyzes manufacturer volume rankings, shipment by maker, and price trends. It provides shipment breakdowns by system technology, operating systems, display, embedded Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS, and examines production locations, shipment destinations, and business types. The content of this report is based on primary data obtained through interviews with smart cellular device makers. The report finds that Taiwanese smart cellular device shipment volume in the fourth quarter of 2008 was affected by the economic downturn; only HTC managed to achieve significant shipment growth in the fourth quarter. As for 2009, international brands are expecting the economy to rebound in the second half of 2009. As a result, they have delayed shipment schedules, and few new models are expected to be rolled out at the beginning of the year. The Taiwanese industry's shipment in the first quarter will mainly consist of the Apple iPhone 3G, the HTC Diamond series and the T-Mobile G1. However, as these products have already passed their lifecycle peak, the industry's shipment volume is expected to fall 20%-25% sequentially in the first quarter.
