Abstract

This report presents forecast and recent quarter review of Taiwanese basic/feature phone shipment volume, shipment value, ASP, volume and share by maker and by price point, and manufacturer volume ranking. The report also includes product mix analyses, including phone type, system technology, display color count mix, embedded camera and camera array format, and handset shape. Assembly levels, production locations, shipment destinations, business types, and customer portfolios are also examined. The content of this report is based on primary data obtained through interviews with basic/feature phone makers. The report finds that the Taiwanese basic/feature phone shipment volume experienced considerable sequential declines in the fourth quarter of 2008. Although ASP grew due to increase in the shipment of high-end EDGE models, shipment value dropped in the fourth quarter. In the full-year 2009, Taiwanese basic/feature phone ASP is expected to remain above a certain level thanks to the continuing growth of EDGE model shipments, while shipment volume is forecasted to see further declines owing to lackluster market demand as well as the branded vendors' efforts to clear inventory buildups.
