Abstract

According to MIC's optimistic-scenario forecasts, worldwide FTTx shipment value is expected to reach NT$2.99 trillion by 2013 (US$98,8 billion; US$1 = NT$33.04), and PON equipment's share of the global total is expected to reach 39%, followed by switch's 25%; using the Bass diffusion model, POM shipment volume is forecasted to reach nine million units by 2013 Affected by the global financial turmoil in 2008, which is likely to continue into 2009, global telecom operators will slow their fiber optical network deployment Fiber optical networks are gradually becoming mature in Japan and Korea, with FTTx becoming mainstream technology; as Western European and North American vendors and governments have taken aggressive moves to deploy FTTx networks, demand for FTTx products is expected to see a boost in these regions
