Abstract

In the third quarter of 2004, brand-name vendors adjusted their channel systems in China and continued to cut prices aggressively while Chinese handset makers experienced increases in inventories of key components and handsets. Suffering from counter-attacks by major brands and over-competition in the Chinese market, Chinese makers registered a sharp fall in shipment volume in the third quarter of 2004. The Chinese mobile phone industry reached 63.3 million units in the third quarter, 1.2% growth sequentially.
