Abstract

Global top three OS (Operating System) developers Apple, Google and Microsoft launched their respective new tablets in October 2012. The rise of tablets not only changes the mobile PC ecosystem but also brings a stir to the OS landscape. Other than introducing innovations to their OS platforms, Google and Microsoft have developed their own-brand tablets leveraging their new OS, trying to break Apple's dominance in the tablet market. In addition, three major OS developers have launched their new tablets in anticipation of imminent seasonal demand in North America during the Christmas holiday. This report profiles new tablets launched by three major OS developers and examines the effects of their product strategies on the tablet industry.
