Abstract

The rise of cloud computing in recent years has driven a wide range of end devices towards more compact and lightweight designs, with computing and storage tasks concentrated on the server side. Keeping pace with the trend, many cloud computing service providers have been aggressively deploying data centers, including projects initiated by Google, Facebook, and Apple. In an effort to achieve a computing system featuring the highest efficiency and the lowest cost, the OCP (Open Compute Project) headed by Facebook has been developing open hardware architecture for data centers, and has earned a number of vendors' support, such as HP, Dell, Asus, and Quanta. This report provides an all-round analysis on the Facebook OCP regarding its significance and impact on data centers.
