The Greater China notebook PC industry only managed to post 4% sequential shipment growth in the second quarter of 2012, with shipment volume reaching approximately 43.4 million units. The lower-than-expected shipment performance can be broken down to several reasons. Affected by the weak global economy, market demand in Europe, the US, and China, the three major economies, had weakened. Besides the US's stagnant consumption, the Chinese government has called an end to consumption-motivating policies. Due to the political transition, the Chinese government has been focusing on stabilizing the political conditions for the near future, rather than inciting consumption. In addition, the government's "Home Appliances to the Countryside" and "Old-for-New Home Appliance" initiatives not only provoked potential demands, but also prompted late demand to emerge ahead of schedule. These factors had suppressed growth momentum in China in the second quarter.
