Abstract

In the first quarter of 2012, thanks to a massive amount of entry-level and mid-range x86 server orders outsourced by branded vendors for Taiwanese makers, the Taiwanese server industry's shipment volume continued to see growth, witnessing a 57.5% growth compared to the first quarter of 2011 and a 12.1% compared to the fourth quarter of 2011. The industry's shipment volume topped 1.22 million units. In spite of the growth trend, branded vendors however have begun adjusting share of outsourcing orders placed with their respective contract manufacturers in order to avoid over reliance on a particular maker. Meanwhile, the full-system server shipments inched up and server ASP (Average Selling Price) also increased steadily in the first quarter of 2012.
