Abstract

The Taiwanese server system industry continued to feel the breeze brought by the trend of cloud computing data centers in 3Q 2011. Google, Facebook, and Amazon skipped international server branded vendors and directly placed orders with Taiwanese server contract manufacturers leveraging the latter's hardware manufacturing and design capabilities. Taiwanese manufacturers also made changes to their existing client portfolios, aggressively setting foot in North America to seek new clients. Other than providing their clients the local support for hardware equipment, Taiwanese manufacturers also attempted to understand software architectures and demand from the client-side so as to enhance their software/hardware integration capability. The Taiwanese full-system and barebones server industry's shipment volume was estimated to reach approximately 969,900 units, up 17.5% year-on-year and 13.6% sequentially. The third-quarter server system ASP (Average Selling Price) grew sequentially to around US$853.2. Overall, Taiwanese server full system and barebones shipment value arrived at approximately US$827.5 million in the third quarter of 2011.
