Abstract

In the second quarter of 2011, driven by the IT demand brought forth by cloud computing and enterprise data centers, Taiwanese server manufacturers landed orders from companies including Google, Facebook, and Amazon, in light of Taiwanese manufacturers' hardware manufacturing capability and cost effectiveness. Counting in both full system and barebone shipments, Taiwanese server manufacturers' shipment volume grew 13.1% year-on-year and 10.3% sequentially to around 854,100 units. At the same time, although CPU (Central Processing Unit) prices have been on the decline, the second-quarter server system ASP (Average Selling Price) grew to around US$851.9 due to fluctuations in currency exchange rates and rise of labor costs in major production locations such as the coastal regions of China. Overall, Taiwanese server full system and barebone shipment value arrived at approximately US$727.6 million in the second quarter of 2011.
