Abstract

This research report presents shipment volume and value forecast and recent quarter review of the Taiwanese desktop PC industry. The report includes desktop PC shipment volume, value, ASP, shipment by tier and maker, product mix analysis, as well as breakdowns by customer, shipment destination, and assembly location. The content of this report is based on primary data obtained through interviews with desktop PC makers. The report finds that the Taiwanese desktop PC industry's shipment volume and value saw both sequential and year-on-year growth in the fourth quarter of 2010. The shipment of AIO PCs, which used to contribute the dominant share of the industry's total shipment, was weakened in the second half of 2010, while the enterprises' replacement demand for desktop PCs is seen to have replaced AIO PCs as a key growth driver for the industry. In addition, North America once again became the industry's largest shipment destination in the fourth quarter of 2010. Although Intel and AMD's new platforms are slated for release in the first quarter of 2011, slow new product release schedule is estimated to affect the industry's year-on-year and sequential growth in the first quarter of 2011. It is forecasted that the industry's shipment volume will slacken in the first quarter of 2011 and gradually grow upwards in the second and third quarters of 2011.
