Abstract

The data presented in this study and the assumptions made regarding the future are largely based on three industry surveys targeting companies in Taiwan which were conducted by MIC in April, July, and November 2000, along with the results of interviews with leading international manufacturers. This has been supplemented by R.O.C. customs data, and the statistics and forecasts produced by other research institutes with regard to the overall business climate, exchange rates and market scale. Given that the PC market has already entered a mature stage of development, in the future the impact on the industry of changes in the economic climate and exchange rates in different regional markets will become increasingly marked. Some of the major assumptions made regarding the business climate and exchange rates are noted below.
