Abstract

Since the dawning of the era of low-priced computers and low profits, PC vendors have been looking for ways to shorten supply chains and reduce product cost to enhance product competitiveness. In an effort to strengthen their global production systems, leading IT vendors have begun to place greater stress on rapid service and shorter delivery time. In order to conform to leading international IT vendor requirements, not only have Taiwan's contract PC manufacturers begun to build up a global network of production and assembly facilities, they have also begun to construct rear services and logistics service networks. China has naturally become an important link in Taiwanese manufacturers' global logistics, and cross-strait logistics demand has risen dramatically. Desktop PCs have reached a higher level of maturity in terms of both technology and markets, and the percentage of desktop PC production taking place in China is already very high. This report will therefore focus mainly on the Taiwanese desktop PC industry's cross-strait flow of materials and technology.
