Abstract

Global motherboard shipment volume in 2006 amounted to 148.8 million units, while Taiwanese shipment volume reached 147.3 million units, representing 99.0% of global shipments. Due to disparate developments in regional markets and the release of Windows Vista, worldwide motherboard shipment volume saw drastic fluctuations. Full-year shipment volume growth in 2006 was restrained by unusually low shipment levels during the peak season, which affected the shipment performance of major motherboard makers. The global market is expected to see significant growth in 2007, with major motherboard makers developing in different directions. The moves made by major PC brands in particular are expected to affect contract manufacturers. This report will examine major developments in the worldwide and Taiwanese motherboard industry in 2006 and provide an industry forecast for 2007.
