Abstract

In the second quarter of 2005 the Chinese desktop PC industry saw consumer demand in first tier cities hit a ceiling, leading to makers aggressively venturing out into other regions in China. Furthermore, in the summer period makers competed on prices and several high-end offerings hit the market, stimulating overall market demand. All these factors resulted in a shipment volume of 2.2 million units, year-on-year growth of 19.4%. Shipment volume for the full first half of 2005 amounted to 4.2 million units, representing 17.1% year-on-year growth. Volume during the second half of the year will ride upward on the strength of seasonal factors; however, full year shipment volume will be slightly affected by the slowdown experienced by international brands.
