Abstract

September's strong market demand intensified in October and November, generating 6% year-on-year growth in Taiwanese desktop PC shipment volume in the fourth quarter of 2004. Considering the weak stimulus of technological drivers, shipment value growth was held down to roughly the same level as shipment volume gains. In China, volume from domestic PC makers was pushed by government and educational sectors, as well as LCD monitor bundling in the consumer segment. In the first quarter of 2005, Taiwanese shipment volume growth will mimic the pace of the global market, which will slow due to slackening replacement demand.
